A Letter to the Public from the Family of Charles and Evelyn Carpenter

Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Fellow Residents of Grand Lake,

It is with deep sorrow that we reach out to you today, as we continue to grapple with the heartbreaking loss of our beloved parents and grandparents, Charles and Evelyn Carpenter. On the night of October 10, 2018, our family was shattered when they were senselessly taken from us in a brutal act of violence. At the ages of 72 and 70, Charles and Evelyn had been living their golden years in peace, enjoying their well-deserved retirement in the community they had loved for so long.

Charles and Evelyn were the epitome of warmth and kindness. They were pillars of the Grand Lake community, known for their generosity, wisdom, and unwavering love for one another. After spending decades working hard to provide for their family, they retired to the tranquil beauty of Grand Lake, where they found joy in simple pleasures: gardening, taking leisurely walks, and spending time with their children and grandchildren.

Their sudden and violent deaths have left an unimaginable void in our lives. The grief we feel is compounded by the knowledge that their killer has yet to be brought to justice. We have spent the past six years searching for answers, hoping for closure, and longing for the day when the person responsible for this heinous act is held accountable.

Our mother, Evelyn, was a devoted wife and mother, whose warmth could light up any room. "She had a way of making everyone feel special and loved," recalls her granddaughter, Sarah. "Her laughter was contagious, and her hugs were the best in the world. It's impossible to imagine life without her."

Our father, Charles, was a man of quiet strength and deep compassion. "He was the rock of our family," says his son, David. "Dad was always there for us, offering guidance and support. He taught us the value of hard work, honesty, and kindness. Losing him feels like losing our foundation."

As a family, we are reaching out to you, our community, in the hope that someone, somewhere, knows something that could help us find justice for Charles and Evelyn. We believe that there may be information out there—no matter how small or seemingly insignificant—that could lead to the resolution of this case. If you have any knowledge that could assist in the investigation, we implore you to come forward. Your courage could help us find the closure we so desperately need.

We also ask that you keep the memory of Charles and Evelyn alive by embracing the values they cherished: kindness, community, and love. They lived their lives in service to others, and we know that they would want their legacy to be one of compassion and care.

Every year, we gather as a family at their favorite spot by the lake to honor their memory. We invite you to join us in this remembrance, to stand with us as we continue to seek justice, and to help us keep their spirit alive in the community they loved so dearly.

Thank you for your support, your prayers, and your willingness to help us in our time of need. Together, we can ensure that Charles and Evelyn's memory is honored, and that justice is served.

With deepest gratitude,

The Carpenter Family
